"The disciples of the Sages should be inside the same as they are outside" (Yoma 72 B), but no one is urged that his exteriority be like his interiority. That would be perilous practice. The external deportment must always be the best, no matter what one's character actually is; although he should always strive that his character-traits keep step with his external good deeds.
